Field Trips San Xia and Gu Gong

School is going well and it's been busy here studying a bunch and spending time with family.   Lots of fun in April and May.

Our teacher took us on a field trip to San Xia, an old town south west of Taipei located where 3 rivers used to meet.  The architecture is typical of Japanese colonial times.

Lots of neighborhoods in Taiwan I think have a Lao Jie = Old Street.  This one is  Minquan Old Street.

We also went to Gu Gong - the famous National Palace Museum displays traditional Chinese artifacts.  There are so many items that the exhibits often rotate -- pieces that are not on display are stored IN the nearby mountain for safekeeping.  Pretty special to have this place because many Chinese artifacts were destroyed in China's Cultural Revolution.  My favorite piece was a ~17 ft long panoramic scroll that depicts daily life activities of people during the peaceful affluent times in the Song Dynasty about 900 yrs ago.  "Along the River During the Ch'ing Ming Festival"  http://www.npm.gov.tw/exh96/orientation/flash_4/index.html
